SootheOperator's Massage Interview
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
omg, I don't! But I do remember when I signed up for a 10 week men's massage exchange that really taught me about the art of touch, the very first guy I worked with was so handsome. He was one of the 1st guys I noticed when I entered the room and I remember being so excited to be paired with him. When he laid on the massage table I started practicing what we'd learned that day and he didn't like ANYTHING I did to him. Then we switched places and I didn't like ANYTHING that he did to me. Thankfully by the end of the 10 weeks that had changed. We remained friends and still laugh about it until this day.
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
I would miss the people that I get to meet. I've met some really great people in this line of work. But whether you want it to or not, being a masseur has an expiration date. It can be hard on your body and I don't want to stop doing it because my wrists go out one day. I think I would like to transition into more sacred intimate work and help individuals and couples discover some the beautiful erotic energy that we all carry around in us, but seldom REALLY tap into.
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
No, but my standards for success are high. I'm a full time masseur though. I am grateful to have large repeat clientele and do something that I genuinely enjoy for a living. Let's just say, if I was making the money that I make now, and living somewhere that's not as expensive as New York City, I'd probably definitely consider myself a successful masseur. lol. It's all relative.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
Relaxed, and like they've made a new friend.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I'm a creative and a work horse. I also love to learn. I'm always taking a class of some sort. At the moment I'm learning the Adobe Creative Suite. I'm also learning Spanish.
Why did you become a Masseur?
I became a masseur bc I experience just as much pleasure giving a massage as I do receiving one. People would tell me that I was a natural even before I got trained. It's best to play to your strengths right?
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
Be intentional about your self-care. As masseurs we are constantly taking care of others and taking on their energy. We have to reset. We have to balance. We have to take care of ourselves that we can fully take care of others.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
Convenience. Instead of back and forth messaging and trying to figure out a good time to do your service, you can book me directly online via my website, www.tomik9point5.com.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
I travel several times a year.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
Relaxed, rejuvenated and thankful.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
Yes, touch is an art and a science. You need to know how to respond to people's movements, breath and sounds. You have to know the body so that you don't do more harm than good when you are rubbing and stretching people. And you need customer service skills as well. Massage isn't a necessary service. When people come to see me, they are treating themselves. I make sure that everyone has a 5 star experience.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
I've been a masseur since 2017. It's a trade that you can take with you anywhere. This machine is well-oiled and primed to keep going.
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
I don't view my job as just touching people. When I place my hands on someone I'm anointing them. Every touch is led with intention and I understand that people are treating themselves to something that they hope to be special when they book with me. I go out of my way to make sure that each and every service is special.
