SteveMercCMT's Massage Interview
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
Right out of school I moved to Venice Beach and I was bombarded with clients. Some liked me so much they drive an hour here to where I live now to get worked on by me. I feel very blessed
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
Absolutely I would miss it. Not so much addictive as it becomes a part of who you are, you want to help people either alleviate pain or relax, whatever it is they may need.
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
Yes! The school that I went to actually refers to me as their success story of becoming a therapist and quickly becoming one of the most sought after therapists in the area.
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
Ive accomplished a lot in my lifetime: Club DJ from the age of 15, Volunteer 1984 Olympic Games LA, Lead Designer 2nd GPS system in Space/GPS IIF, Contributed to design of JWST/James Webb Space Telescope.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
As though the work they just received was exactly what they needed. Im very intuitive and can tailor the massage accordingly. Energy.. Deep Tissue.. Corrective..
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
Mountain bike, Gym, Music, Clubs to dance, DIY home projects
Why did you become a Masseur?
I told myself I can’t fix the world. But I can help make people feel better one person at a time.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
Be sure of the training you get, massage school can really be a life changer.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
Clients usually feel the energy I bring to them. And in some cases help them get rid of.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
So far about 8 yrs. I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
More of a home body. Growing up on Southern California we have everything we could want.. ocean.. mountains.. always something to do.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
Yes, its important to know a lot of things. Aside from different modalities of massage, anatomy, physiology and learning about energy and chakras makes you an even better therapist. Also, there are contraindications; which if not known you can cause the client more harm than good if you are unaware of them. Contraindications are the situations and medical conditions that would prevent a therapist from working on a client.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
The majority of my clients will say they feel as though they left the planet and floated off somewhere only to be able to stand up and feel pain and aches are gone and they feel renewed.
