TonyM's Massage Interview
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
I was excited but quite nervous as well, but I also knew this is the profession I wanted for myself since I was 10 years of age.
Why did you become a Masseur?
When I was only 10 years old, I offered to give my aunt a massage since I was trying to get brownie points in order to convince her to buy me an expensive semi-truck ***. She liked it so much and then she said: Tony, if in a few days you give another massage just the one today, I will buy that expensive *** for you. I did and she also delivered. Therefore, ever since, I promise myself that someday I would become not just a Masseur, but a good one!
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
I know what is like to live with tension and pain. When I was a kid, my uncle trained wild horses and then he would test them with me so, many times I got hurt by those not ready horses. Soon after, I needed massages from time to time and I would get so frustrated when the “masseur” would never find all the right areas of concern nor the pressure points.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
I have been a masseur for over 4 years, and would like to ramain one for many years to come.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
I love when my client ls tell me that my massages are one of the 3 best ever or the the best one. Hearing that is quite rewarding, that is all I need to hear.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
I like to travel about every 3 to 4 months, especially when I notice that I am having kind of a slower month. When I travel I get to work there, I get to meet new people and that helps me to come back to my hometown feeling all recharged, relaxed and motivated.
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
Yes, I love helping people with a good massage because I know how I feels like to enjoy a good massage myself as well.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to play musical instruments, singing, traveling as well as doing some kind of volunteering, because giving back is part of spirituality. And that keeps me well balanced.
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
Absolutely, because I get many returning happy clients. And that reminds me that I am good, but also keeps me humbled to a certain point.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
Happy with my work, relaxed and revitalized.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
To become one if he or she truly believes to have the passion and the discipline that it takes to become a very good Masseur.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
I am easy to talk to or not, I have been told many many times that I have such a great touch.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
I would say yes, and that would be the perfectionist in me talking. But many massage schools offer different options and I am sure one of those would suit you well.
