TroyJames's Massage Interview
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
I’d always wanted to be a masseur but was very shy when I was younger. With my first client, I remember being so nervous that I wasn’t going to be good at it. Once I got started though, it just felt right and all that worry melted away. Turned out it was also the client’s first time ever getting a massage and we’re still good friends to this day!
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
I would definitely miss being a Masseur. If anything, I’m addicted to making others feel good. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a relaxed smile on a client’s face. Makes me feel great to know that I was able to do that for them.
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
I would consider myself to be a successful masseur. It comes very naturally for me and I think clients can sense that I genuinely care about their needs.
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
I’m a very generous person and didn’t always have the self-confidence I feel today. I have actually hired multiple Masseurs on here myself. I know how good it feels to be taken care of by a skilled Masseur. To me, the best Masseurs leave you not only feeling good physically, but also help you feel more comfortable and confident in your own body.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
I would like them to feel like they’re on top of the world. Like they’ve been uplifted and are more confident and at ease than before the massage. My expectations for myself are high and I never want a client feeling dissatisfied in any way with my service.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to cook for people, I’m a plant geek, and I love spending time with friends and family. Long nature hikes, swimming in the ocean, camping, and new adventures keep me feeling alive and well.
Why did you become a Masseur?
I became a Masseur to make extra money as a side job. I also love meeting new people and having new life experiences so it felt like a great fit for me.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
I would tell anyone who wants to be a Masseur that it’s less about them and more about the client. I think a lot of people feel that in order to become a Masseur, they must first strive for some kind of physical perfection. That’s just not true. There are many different types of people who are attracted to many different types of people. Your job as a Masseur is to be attracted to making your clients feel good, not to be universally attractive to everyone. There’s no such thing as universally attractive and it’s not just about having a lean, hairless 6-pack. Just be kind and compassionate and the right clients will find you and want to hire you just the way you are. I wish someone would have told me this in my 20s! Lol
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
I’m just a real guy who genuinely cares about making people feel good. I’m also very open minded and non-judgmental. I think that everyone deserves to feel good and I try my best to make that happen for all of my clients.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
I only recently created my RentMasseur profile but I have been giving great massages for most of my adult life. I say I have two years of experience in my profile, but in reality I’ve been massaging friends and lovers since even before I came out of the closet in college. I will continue to be a Masseur until it no longer feels right for me.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
I love to travel! I try to travel internationally at least once a year. I’m really not much of a homebody at all. To me, home is a place to sleep, entertain friends, and maybe occasionally watch a good show/movie. Mostly I enjoy being out and about either with a friend or as a lone adventurer. I actually love feeling out of place. When I’m pushed outside of my comfort zone, I feel like I’m truly living.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
I don’t have extensive training, but I do have a lot of practice. I’m very intuitive and always appreciate constructive criticism and direction. I think those qualities, along with self-confidence and a desire to make people feel good are the most important qualities a Masseur can possess. Sure formal training may be beneficial for some, but I don’t think it is at all necessary for most. Just be willing to learn and encourage your clients to feel comfortable enough to communicate their likes, dislikes, needs, desires, and special requests.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
I like clients to feel like they can’t wait to hire me for another massage lol. But, mostly I just want them to feel really great :)
