amsterdamhands's Massage Interview
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
It depends on what one considers extensive. But yes: training is necessary. First of all: you don't want to cause harm to a client. But also: for a massage to be effective and not just 'nice', you need to have at least some basic knowledge of the human body, the different kind of massage techniques and the way they can work together to create a good massage.
Why did you become a Masseur?
I love touch. I love touching bodies, cause i think they're a miracle in in itself. And I also love the way touch can help us feel relaxed, healed, loved, appreciated.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
I like clients to leave relaxed and energized at the same time. I like them to experience their body as one, not just all the separate parts. I like them to leave feeling at home in their body, appreciating their body, loving their body.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
I think I not the only one who does this, but I consider myself a very attentive massage therapist. For the time of the massage I can really focus on somebody. Also, I like to tell the story of somebody's body by connecting all the different parts with my hands.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
Get some practice by doing exchanges, have a couple of massages with different masseurs and then find a good, basic training. From there on, find your own niche.
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
I was a bit nervous but after about 20 minutes into the massage I started to sync with the breathing of the client and it was like i’ve never done anything else.
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
Absolutely! There is something really wonderful about touch, not just for the person on the table.
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
I am a movie fan. I try to see 3 movies every week.
