gymbuilt's Massage Interview
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
I've been practicing for more than 15 years! While I can't remember my first massage client, I approach each of my sessions as if it IS my first. I believe the moment of truth about what you promise and what gets delivered is proven with each encounter, therefore I try to make each massage THE BEST! I encourage prospective clients to ask around about me. My regular clients will speak up for my attention to their bodies and my unique style of care.
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
You bet I miss it! In fact, my body just begins to ache if I don't massage. I love my work and it shows!
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
Thankfully, yes! We each measure success differently. I prefer to let my clients speak for my work. Please ask them!
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
I am TOTALLY into my work. When my hands are on your body, I try to shut everything else out and just be "in the zone" while I'm working on you. My body can more effectively communicate with yours when there are no distractions.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
I want them to say WOW! I can't remember when I've felt this good before. THAT would make my day.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
Spend time with my family, work on projects at my cabin, scuba dive, travel to interesting places.
Why did you become a Masseur?
To share my gift of bodywork with others. I truly believe my skills and abilities are a blessing and I can enrich other people's lives by sharing them with my clients. I love the human body, in all its forms, and I believe everyone deserves the gift of touch.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
There is a HUGE difference between giving someone a "rub" and providing massage professionally. If you don't LOVE giving that gift to others, don't get in this profession. If you truly are destined to become a masseur, as they say, you'll never work a day in your life...;)
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
My intuitive understanding about what the body needs and how I can supply it. There is a special connection between me and my clients' bodies. They feel it and so do I.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
15+ years. For as long as my body says YES!!!
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
I am intentional about travel. I put the trips on the calendar and make them happen. I am no longer content to just say "I'd like to see/visit/explore" some area of the globe. I make it happen!
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
Yes. I am constantly upgrading, learning new modalities. They are my tools in my box and I pull from those as I need them. Not every situation responds to deep tissue massage. Best to be prepared to provide the approach that gets results, be it Esalen, Thai, Reflexology, Fijian foot massage, Hawaiian lomi lomi, etc.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
Like they have received a true gift. I want a permanent smile on my clients' faces. That means I've hit the mark.
