jakemaster's Massage Interview
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
I am going to be completely honest with you. My first client was wonderful, but I was not happy at all internally as that first hour was long, tiring, and my hands and back hurt. I honestly didn't thought this was for me, but despite that I did everything possible to provide my client with the best massage possible, I worked hard, and was successful since he is still my client up to this day. Now I didn't go to massage school like other masseurs, on the contrary I was taught personally by a very experienced masseur one - on - one and I have to say that it was an intense training. Thanks to that I became the masseur I am today, successful, strong, and original in the sense that I have my own technique. I don't use or copy techniques from others, I make my own which work better than others according to my clients testimony. Now I am a very experienced masseur who is certified and who will be completely honest with you about everything and please know that whatever we talk to with each other will stay between us.
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
I would definitely miss my masseur days because I get to meet and talk to so many wonderful people. I have been doing this for 10 years and I have met thousands of people out there, heard their life stories, learned from them, and shared wonderful memories. Most of my clients have become my friends, I've traveled all over the world with them, gone out of town to visit them, and keep a very close relationship with every single one of them. To me being a masseur has always been about my clients, about that other persons needs, their thoughts, and about developing something long term.
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
I definitely consider myself a very succcessful masseur and it's not because I am always booked, but rather because I have made soo many friendships. A lot of my clients have become close friends, we keep in touch regularly, travel out of town with each other, and just enjoy life together. We have made soo many wonderful memories and continue to do so. I am very grateful for having the opportunity to have met every single one of them.
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
Something I would like my clients to know about me is that I am very open minded. I can talk to you about anything, I am not shy at all and I am down to earth. Honesty is my best policy because when things are clear then there are no misunderstandings. I am a man who doesn't like to label things or judge people. On the contrary I admire them for who they are because everyone has a unique gift. I am a man who looks at a persons heart, who connect with a person at a deeper level and develop great personal connections.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
My objective throughout the whole massage, from beginning to end, is for my clients to feel happy. I want them to feel completely satisfied, fullfilled, joyful, and relaxed. I want them to have a sense of feeling that they did a wonderful investment in their own body and for them to have enjoyed everything about our session. I want them to know that I gave it my all, that I understood them, and that they have made a new friend in me.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
Well on my spare time I love to workout and be outdoors. I am a very athletic man, and I love being with nature. Nothing like a good hike, a sport, or just some good old iron to pump. I also enjoy traveling, seeing new places, enjoying new things, and having long wonderful conversations. Apart from that, I do like to work on my house, maybe tare down a whole wall or remodel the kitchen, I guess I am a true handyman who just loves to stay busy.
Why did you become a Masseur?
I became a masseur because I needed a good job that would pay well, but I stayed working as a masseur not because of the money, but because I loved the people I met. I developed this sense of kindness to want to help people, to want to make them feel good, and see a smile on their face. I wanted to be able to make a different in their lives, from giving advice, listening to them, to letting them know that they got a good friend in me who is there to listen and help them in whatever they need. It's not just about work and money, but more about what we can all do for each other. I am a very kind man who believes that good people are still out there.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
My advice to anyone who wants to be a masseur is to do it because you want to help people. That is to me the most wonderful reward anyone can get. Another advice is to becareful with who you meet out there, yes there are a lot of wonderful good people, but there are also some very evil people who will not only take advantage of you, but also hurt you. Therefore, be very careful and watch out for the people who are deceivers.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
I believe that every masseur out there is unique, they all have their skills, but what distinguishes me from them is my heart and kindness. I am not here to take your money, I am here to help you in whatever way possible. I am a masseur that will work hard for you, I will keep constant hard pressure, and will work any knots or problems out of your body. I will also give you your money's worth and will not stop until I have worked all your knots from your body or until you feel satisfied.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
I have been a masseur for 10 wonderful years and unfortunately I will only continue doing this for one more year. I have had 10 very successful years and thanks to God in a year I will be able to receive a very good retirement check. I have been very successful in my life and I believe that now is the time to retire completely. Being a masseur takes a toll on the body despite how well you take care of it so it's best to retire while one is healthy and when one can. Other reasons for my retirement is due to the fact that I will soon be debt free, I will finish paying off my second home in a year, and I have all my vehicles paid off. What I plan to do after retirement is to travel the globe, see different things, and enjoy life.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
I travel every week, usually for work and to see other clients. In fact, I travel all over the world as a massage therapist or as a clients personal masseur. I am also a homebody when I am not traveling, though to be honest I rarely spend time at home when I am in my hometown due to my busy schedule with work.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
I personally believe that dedication, heart, and willingness are keys to being a successful masseur.
