massagesublime's Massage Interview
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
I put an advert in gum tree and I got a booking within half a hour...I was so surprised. Power of advertising.
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
Im very passionate about my work and I love what I do so yes I would miss my masseur days
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
I work from home and give my clients a personal touch as well as for a couple of mobile sites. I think its important to enjoy what you do as it shows in your work, for this reason I know that I am a successful masseur but self development is always something I'm aware of.
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
I've worked in the arts for quite along time, working as a actor and dancer..I'm now passionate about two careers. Both jobs are about giving people pleasure and its my absolute dedication to give my massage clients a great service. I believe if you are doing a job then it has to be done with pride and it has to be done to the best of your ability.; that is why I call myself Massage sublime.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
Rejuvenated. Relived of aches and pains. Relieved of stress and knots. Happier and feeling healthier.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I believe in keeping fit so I spend my spare time either doing yoga classes or gym classes ..I also enjoy 5 rhythms dancing if you haven't heard of it check it out ..its. a great way of connecting with people and keeping the body agile. I also travel a lot and will be living one of my dreams this summer by going to Borneo and spending some time in a Orangutangs sanctuary.
Cycling and dog walking are also favourite pastimes.
Why did you become a Masseur?
A friend needed help in giving four hand massages to clients and suggested I get my self a Swedish massage qualification which I was able to obtain in a day...from then on I moved on to six months training in Itec level 3 massage, chair massages and pregnancy massage. I always enjoyed receiving treatments so it was a natural transition in becoming the masseur. I also wanted a job where I felt my talents are fully appreciated and the biggest compliment to my services is to have repeat customers.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
Get your self a qualification. If you cant afford the Itec or other similar accredited courses you can always do a days training but make sure its still an accredited course which you can get insured by. Its important to gain a insurance certificate as money is being exchanged and you are providing a service. Other information like acquiring a first aids certificate and health and safety in your work space is also valuable knowledge. Its a great profession but be good at what you do..Anyone putting their hands on my body whether it be hairdressers, chiropodists, masseurs have a very personal contact with myself so I want to have utter trust in their professionalism. Your skill set won't happen over night so be patient in building up your skills. Marketing yourself is probably the most important thing you can do after obtaining your qualifications and its important to get yourself out there as well as you can, as the more sites your advertised on the more likely you will acquire clients. some sites are free and some you have to pay for .
finally have your boundaries as a masseur and be clear to clients what you are offering.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
Im good at what I do and I I don't over sell myself. I'm attentive to my clients needs and offer great massage to male and female or couples.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
Ive been in the profession for over 10 years now and Ive worked in the U.K And Canada. Its a great profession regards to being free lance and being able to work in any country I choose, for this reason I can see myself carrying on for quite along time.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
Every year I need to travel to some where hot or be besides the sea. Even if its just going down to Margate or Brighton but more often or not Ill find myself on a plane flying to holiday destination.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
Extensive training isn't necessary....I believe I had the skills before I started professionally but they needed to be tailored hence seeking out a days training in a established salon. If you've given a few massages to friends and they think you have a good touch thats a good start. massage tables and oils is your next stop..but be professional....baby oil and a creaking massage table won't go down well with a client who knows a good service.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
I want clients to feel on the of the world when they leave me. Massage is all about detoxing the body and rejuvenating the bodies immune system and aligning energy.
