JayBrit's Massage Interview
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
It was a while ago now but I was honestly apprehensive about meeting my first client. It went very well and that client came back to me regularly after that until they moved abroad. I decided to become a masseur as I felt I can connect to a person's energy and soothe their stress away. My clients walk away feeling re-energised but calm.
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
I find that it is quite a workout for myself but also very calming with the varied repeated movements.
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
Yes I receive compliments on my style of massage and clients recommend me to their friends.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to keep fit so training at the gym is essential to both my body and mind. I enjoy cinema and travel, when I can.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
From what I've seen with fellow masseurs is that everyone has a different 'touch'. I've been told my own reassures and takes tension away from the moment, therefore allowing the client to experience a far more relaxed massage.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
Massage is something that can be changed, adapted or altered and new techniques are always out there to learn.
Why did you become a Masseur?
It's helped to supplement my income and I feel good about helping people come in the door feeling maybe stressed or anxious and then when they leave they are relaxed and calm.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
I'd like them to feel in a better place, calmer and more relaxed than when they arrived.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
I like to travel when I can for holidays, the sun is always more appealing when it's a grey and wet day here in London.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
I've been a masseur for around 8 years now. I think I'll continue indefinitely as I find the experience therapeutic not just for the client but also for myself.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
Find a good course, watch clips online (plenty on Youtube) and practice.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
The goal is for the client to feel totally calm and relaxed after a massage.
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
I like to make the client feel that the whole massage is an experience, so I always make sure that the room and table are warm, softly lit and with soothing music playing. A client is coming to me to relax so this is important to me to make them feel as comfortable as possible.
